DEXTER!!!!

The first thing that came up when I thought of a cultural text was Dexter. Dexter is a show on HBO about a serial killer that is a part of the Miami homicide department. He aims to kill the guys that try getting away with murder. This was the result of witnessing his own mother’s murder as a child. While growing up he killed animals and his adopted father helped him become a master of hiding his tracks. He goes through many obstacles and drama. He still manages to survive although there are a good amount of people in the series that find out what he is capable of.
Now what does this say about the society of today? Do we all secretly want to kill or do crazy stuff like that? Well I hope not but I think the explanation for this can be similar to why society was so obsessed with zombies. People like that drama and intense story lines. They are able to feel a part of this different world. Not only that but Dexter kills that bad guys. That is something everyone approves of. Just like superman beat the guys, Dexter gets rid of the bad guys. The question is Dexter kills and can also be considered a bad guy, so why is everyone still on his side? If it was up to me to answer that, well I think it’s cause he’s super cool. But it can also be the fact that he tries to create a sense of safety in the community by getting rid of people that can threaten that safety. Of course everyone likes the sense of safety. And maybe that’s why people enjoy the show.

Paper Topics

I am still really undecided about what my paper topic can be. I always have a hard time choosing a topic. I think it is one of the worst parts of a paper. I still have some things in mind though.

My first idea was something about the Humboldt Park area. I grew up in that area and remember all my childhood memories there. There are also parts of that area I would like to visit and learn more about.

My second idea was the Wrigleyville area maybe? Still not sure where I would go with that. Well with either of them I'm still uncertain but yeah... I just like that area. I think that it is interesting and beautiful. AND that's the home of the best baseball team EVER! :)

So yeah... These are my thoughts but they do need A LOT of work...

Introduction :)

Heeeyyyyy! I am Evelina Rosado. I was raised in Chicago but I recently moved to Lansing, Illinois. It's only 45 minutes from the city and close to the border of Indiana. I like to chilly chill chill with everyone I enjoy being with. Mostly it's my boyfriend because yeah... He just takes up a lot of my time. I also like being with my family even though they're nuts. I don't really have a favorite artist. Lately I feel like I've been living under a rock. Don't really know what's going on in the world. I also never love an artist to the point where I call them my favorite and stalk 'em. The only group I was a big fan of was Backstreet Boys and I still jam to them once in a while. I chose to come to Columbia because it was the only school that I actually had interest in. It seemed fun and not so boring as the other schools I had in mind. I have not found the medium I feel most comfortable with yet. I am still searching. I am getting the hang of acrylic paint but I would not feel most comfortable using it to express myself. I hope to gain all the knowledge I can. I want to be able to soak in everything I can and actually keep it with me instead of forgetting it after a few weeks. I fear that I will procrastinate too much. Just like I did with this assignment. So that is my goal for this whole semester and not only for this class. To be able to be on top of my assignments and schoolwork.
